Founded in 2014 in Mallawi in Upper Egypt, Megraya began as an independent cultural initiative that seeks to challenge centralization and correct the stereotypical perceptions of the South. It works to foster a free artistic climate that promotes cultural justice through three main pillars: training in film and literature to cultivate a new generation of creators; artistic and knowledge production that authentically reflects the realities of Upper Egypt; and cultural accessibility through major events such as the Mallawi Book Fair and the Minya Short Film Week. Through its diverse programs, support for writers and filmmakers and engagement with children, Megraya has established itself as a key cultural actor in northern Upper Egypt.
