Festivals & touring projects

Could you clarify what is meant by “Touring Projects”. Does the project need to include travel to another country, or can it be a roaming project in one country?
The “Festivals & Touring Projects” sub-pillar supports projects that circulate, tour, and disseminate artistic and cultural works in at least one of the nine eligible countries, and that engage with or reflect on global issues. What matters is the project's ability to move, whether across different countries or through a touring format within a single country.
Does the scope of the funding include field work and the research required to develop the touring program, or does it have to be an existing work that is ready to be disseminated?
Yes, the scope of the funding includes operational and production costs related to the project. The project submitted can be new, ongoing, or completed projects seeking expansion.

If the project is an existing one, it must include a clear touring component. Existing projects that consist solely of a festival or event taking place once in its usual location or format, without a touring or a multi-location dissemination plan, are not eligible.
Are we eligible to apply if we have organized two previous events outside of the nine eligible countries?
No. Only established organizations that have organized at least two previous events within one or more of the nine eligible countries are eligible to apply. Events held exclusively outside these countries do not meet the eligibility requirement.
Are we eligible to apply to the “Festivals & Touring projects” sub-pillar if our organization is not from the nine eligible countries?
No, eligible applicants must be local entities from one of the nine eligible countries. However, in the Festivals & Touring Projects sub-pillar of Creative Caravans, collectives or institutions from outside the nine eligible countries may participate as partners or collaborators in a project, but not as co-applicants, provided that the project is implemented in one or more of the nine eligible countries, and the supported expenses are incurred within those countries.
Can we apply with our own application and also be a collaborator on somebody else’s application?
Yes. You may submit your own application and participate as a collaborator in another project. However, you cannot be listed as a co-applicant on a separate submitted project while also submitting your own application.
Do we need to be an officially registered entity?
No.
Are festivals with a commercial base eligible?
Yes.
For festivals with a large number of participants, is it necessary to include letters of intent/commitment and CVs from all contributors, or would a representative sample of CVs and letters be sufficient?
If you are establishing a long-term partnership for the development of the project, letters of intent or commitment from your partner(s) are required.

For collaborators, we ask for at least preliminary letters of intent from those who have confirmed their participation, along with information about their backgrounds and the nature of your collaboration and their contribution.

If some collaborators will be engaged through an open call, please include a description of the selection process.

Applicants are also encouraged to provide additional supporting materials that strengthen the proposal and demonstrate the project’s feasibility.
Do we need to be specific about the venues inside the cities?
We recommend applicants to provide as much supporting material as possible to complete and strengthen their applications. If your project involves touring across multiple cities, you should at minimum secure commitments from the venues that will host your activities.
Is a festival eligible if it invites international artists, or does the festival itself need to tour?
To be eligible, the festival itself must have a touring component. It should take place in more than one location, either touring within the same country or across different countries.
We received AFAC support earlier this year under the Training and Regional Events program, are we eligible to apply to this call as well?
Yes, applicants who currently hold an active grant from AFAC or have an application in process — with the exception of NACP Cycle 2 grantees — are eligible to apply. However, priority will be given to applicants who are not currently receiving AFAC funding. Collaborative projects being highly encouraged, NACP Cycle 2 grantees may still be partners or collaborators in a project submitted by another eligible applicant(s), but they may not be co-applicants.
Can the festival also offer artistic residencies prior to its implementation?
Yes, as long as the activity proposed is fully part of the festival or the project submitted. Any expenses incurred prior to the signing of the grant agreement with AFAC will not be covered by the grant.
Are digital festivals and touring projects eligible?
No, digital festivals and touring projects happening entirely online are not eligible. However, hybrid projects that combine both physical and digital touring components are eligible under this call.
If our festival includes multiple performances, do all of the performances need to tour, or can only some of them be presented in different locations?
No, a touring festival does not have to present the same programming in every location; different programming can take place in different cities as part of the same festival.

For a platform that has been available digitally for less than one year, but whose preparation and development began two years ago, does the two-year eligibility period start from the date of first publication or from the start of project development?
This call is open to independent digital media platforms that have been operating for at least two years (emerging or established). The two-year eligibility period is counted from the date content became publicly available or was first published, not from the start of project development.
Can two digital media platforms apply—one as an applicant and another as a partner?
Yes.
Are non-journalistic projects eligible under this call?
No, projects submitted under this call need to include and be treated from a journalistic lens.
