Are projects that involve setting up physical spaces considered eligible?
While Ecologies of Culture does not fund the creation of entirely new spaces, projects that involve the expansion, restoration, and rehabilitation of existing ones are eligible. Applicants are also encouraged to collaborate with existing spaces/entities.
Is a newly created space, whether physical or digital, eligible?
Yes, projects may be new, ongoing, or completed projects seeking expansion.
Are institutional related fees supported?
Yes, institutional fees may be supported; however, they should not constitute the entire budget. Applicants may allocate up to 30% of the total budget to institutional fees, while at least 70% should be dedicated to project activities.
Under the Creative Placemaking pillar, AFAC offers financial support of up to 35,000 Euro per project. If your project budget exceeds the above amount, you will be asked to indicate any additional sources of funding (secured or potential). We encourage applicants to present a balanced and diversified budget that reflects various elements of the project. For example, if your project involves renovating a space, it is not advisable to allocate the entire budget solely to renovation costs.
For the Creative Placemaking pillar, can the team consist of two cultural organizations/collectives located in different countries so that the project can be shared between the two locations?
Yes, transnational projects are eligible, provided that both countries are on the list of eligible countries.
Is it a requirement to have partnerships with existing spaces?
Applicants should demonstrate a solid connection to their communities and region, and are encouraged to partner with local structures and institutions through participatory approaches. Partners may include local authorities, educational institutions and civil society organizations beyond the arts and culture sector.
Can governmental entities apply?
No, governmental entities are not eligible to apply. However, applicants can establish partnerships with local authorities, such as municipalities or educational institutions, or collaborate with them during the implementation of their project.
I am a national of one of the eligible countries, but I live in the diaspora. Do I have to collaborate with local residents or groups?
Applicants may operate outside the nine eligible countries, as long as their work is relevant to and benefits the arts and culture scene, explore global issues that directly or indirectly impact their communities through arts and culture practices, they maintain a strong connection or active role within their communities and region, and their activities are implemented in one of the nine eligible countries. Collaborators may include local residents or local structures and institutions.
Can the same person be a co-applicant in two different pillars?
No. Applicants may submit only one application for the open call for Creative Placemaking or Creative Labs. Those who apply to one of these two pillars may also apply to Creative Caravans, when that call opens. However, each applicant is eligible to receive only one grant through the program. If an applicant is awarded a grant under Creative Placemaking or Creative Labs, any subsequent application to Creative Caravans will be automatically discarded.
A co-applicant in one pillar, however, can still collaborate with a different applicant in another pillar, but cannot be one of the project holders or main applicant.
