For the first time in its long-term negotiation process around the digital depository of photographs in Burj al-Shamali, Frictional Conversations will appear in the form of a printed journal, accompanied by a series of podcasts, offering a new mode of access and circulation, both locally and internationally.
The project was initiated in 2001 by Yasmine Eid-Sabbagh and Simon Lourié, as a dialogical photography workshop dubbed A Photographic Conversation, during which the core group involved in these exchanges produced photographs with their own point-and-shoot cameras over a five-year period. These photographs provided both the means and the content of their conversations. From 2006 to 2011, the digital repository was gathered.
