“Misery of Soft Hands” is a photo essay about a group of young girls working in red brick factories in Burj Rashid in the Delta of Egypt. Traditionally the purview of men, brick labor is one of the oldest professions in Egypt. Physically challenging and offering no economic safety net, it is the only livelihood for these girls who have had no access to education. The project follows the underage girls during work, documenting the disjunction of labor and gender in the Delta.
