Heba Farid is a Cairo-based artist, curator, researcher and photography educator. Alongside Zein Khalifa, she cofounded in 2019 TINTERA, a photographic art consultancy firm with a gallery space specifically dedicated to photography.
Heba’s academic background saw her study architecture in Canada and the United States. After relocating to Cairo in 2000, she cofounded in 2004 the Contemporary Image Collective (CIC).
Heba has also taught photography in the Visual Arts Program at the American University in Cairo. She also formerly served as the coordinator of the photographic heritage program for CULTNAT, a satellite of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina.
At these institutions and independently, she has curated exhibitions focused on historic photography collections. She has also attended various regional symposiums to discuss her work on archiving and Egypt’s photographic heritage. Her approach and research to the subject has been published in symposium outputs as well as journals.
Heba is an alumna of the Middle East Photograph Preservation Initiative. She served as a regional jury member for Africa for the 2023 World Press Photo Contest and a nominator for the 2024 Joop Swart Masterclass at the World Press Photo Foundation.
