Belhassen Handous is a visual artist and documentary filmmaker based in Tunis. His projects focus on investigating personal history and archives to make sense of important junctures in contemporary politics. His first documentary film Hecho en Casa (2014) was screened at several film festivals. He is currently finalizing his second documentary film On the Hill. La Syncope du Mérou, his first solo exhibition, was held at Central Tunis gallery in 2021, and he is a 2022 grantee of the Magnum Foundation's Counter-Histories initiative for his project In the Shadows of Our Founding Father which investigates the fall of Bourguiba's regime. Belhassen has worked as a program manager for several years to support artistic projects in North Africa.
