Soumaya Gharsallah is an architect-museologist and holds doctorates in museology, mediation, heritage and information and communication sciences from Avignon and Quebec universities. As a researcher and project manager, she has worked on several museographic projects and on the enhancement of several historical monuments at the Tunisian National Heritage Institute, before serving as the director the Tunisian National Museum of Bardo in 2012. From 2014 to 2018, she acted as the director of the Kamel Lazaar Foundation, a Swiss-Tunisian foundation focused on contemporary art across the whole MENA region. Between 2020 and 2022, she was cultural policy manager at Tfanen – Tunisie créative, an EU-funded program supporting the Tunisian cultural sector. She negotiated and managed 12 cultural policy restructuring, reform and digitization projects for the Tunisian Cultural Affairs Ministry. She monitored the evaluation of these projects on behalf of the European Union delegation in Tunisia. In 2021, Soumaya published the book Musées, patrimoine et politiques culturelles en Tunisie with Nirvana Editions. She is the CEO of Culture Muse Consulting, a consulting firm focused on cultural projects. She works on several museographic renovation and heritage enhancement projects. Since May 2023, Soumaya has worked as a consultant for PWC France-Maghreb. She works on projects in Saudi Arabia on behalf of the Saudi Cultural Ministry’s Heritage Commission as a subject matter expert.
