Omayma Abdelshafy graduated from Al-Azhar University in 2002 with a license degree in Islamic and Arabic Studies. Omayma is a writer who has published the collection of short stories Some of What Everyone Knows (2009) with El-Mahrousa Publishing House, the book of poetry I Owe a Lot to Solitude (2021) with Sefsafa Publishing House. Her writings have been published in several collective volumes, including: El-Koll (2004), Motherhood Book (2017), Odes of a Passing Cloud – Poets of the Newest Wave in Egyptian Prose Poetry/ a Poetic Anthology (2019).
Since 2004, Omayma has been active in several civil associations and artistic initiatives. She organized and moderated a workshop entitled “The Linking Ring: How do we see the language?” in 2014, 2015, 2016, as well as the workshop “The Writing Game” in 2017 and 2018. In 2019, she founded Wekalet Behna for Arts and works currently as its executive manager.
