A Bahraini poet. Born in 1948, he is noted within the Arab world for his free verse poetry and for his activism in calling for freedom and progressive politics in his writings. His poems have been translated in several languages including German, English and French. Haddad is currently the chairman of the Bahraini Writer’s Union which he also cofounded. He worked in construction when he was young to help support his family and also worked in the public library of his hometown and as a clerk for the Department of Education. He was self-taught and has published over fifteen collections of poetry since his first publication, Al-Bshara or Good Omen, in 1970.
