AFAC has launched the "Artist Support Grant", in solidarity with artists and independent cultural practitioners in confinement and challenging contexts across the Arab region, exacerbated by the current health crisis.
The Artist Support Grant is an exceptional grant that aims to extend aid to affected independent artists from and residing in the Arab region, with a one-time $3000 grant per artist, to cover a period of 3 to 6 months. Envisioned as a sabbatical, the grant is meant to support ongoing efforts to strengthen artistic practices through research, reflections, and writings, preparation phase for new projects, as well as new project ideas that can be achieved under the current circumstances (lack of mobility, home confinement, suspension of public activities, etc.).
Through an open call scheme, applicants to the Artist Support Grant will be required to submit a “Letter of Interest” guided by a short set of questions and samples from two of their most recent artistic works and to send them to artistsupportgrant@arabculturefund.org. No electronic application is requested for this grant. Deadline for submissions is July 2, 2020
This grant was made possible thanks to the generous contributions of the Ford Foundation, Open Society Foundations, and Spotify. Through the Spotify COVID-19 Music Relief initiative, Spotify will match donations, dollar-for-dollar, made by individuals, institutions and corporations to the Artist Support Grant program.
