Six Projects Receive NACP Continuity Grants and Local Alliances and Collaborations Grants
20 / 8 / 2024

Six projects will receive Continuity grants and Local Alliances and Collaborations grants under the North Africa Cultural Program (NACP) Cycle II.

In this second cycle, the NACP aims to address critical gaps that require collaborative efforts at the local level within program countries, through local partnerships and collaborations that build up on the networking efforts and country meetings offered by Cycle I. This support intends to enable these connections leading to the development of collaborative activities aimed at addressing shared needs and advocating for common goals on local levels.

The Continuity grant aims to extend funds to previous National Cultural Opportunities Fund (NCOF) grantees, allowing them to build on the foundations established in Cycle I of NACP. This may encompass support for aspects related to institutional strengthening and/or programmatic development.

On its part, the Local Alliances and Collaborations grant is dedicated to support projects between a minimum of 3 entities from the same country, of which a minimum of 2 are previous NCOF grantees.

The NACP jurors for the national funds selected 5 institutions to receive continuity grants from Cycle I (one entity from each of Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco and Tunisia), and 1 local alliance from Egypt involving three institutions. The NACP jurors for this cycle’s National Cultural Opportunity Fund were: Therese Ghobriel, Marwa Seoudi and Bassem Yousri from Egypt; Maria Daif, Rajae Slimani and Othman Nejemeddine from Morocco; Lydia Haddaj, Salah Badis and Rachid Briki from Algeria; Soumaya Gharsallah, Bochra Triki and Beya Othmani from Tunisia; and Hadia Gana, Fatima Ghandour and Leila Tayeb from Libya.

The entities that will receive Continuity grants are active in media, cinema, visual arts and multidisciplinary domains, building connections, encouraging social dialogue across a variety of fronts, and supporting new talents and creative voices. On its part, the selected local alliance aims to improve accessibility and ethical use of archival materials.

These entities and collaborations stand among 81 institutions supported under the second cycle of the NACP (2024-2027). The NACP is carried out by AFAC with the support of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). The first cycle of the program (2019-2023) benefited 54 cultural organizations and over 2,500 practitioners and professionals, through diversified grants, training, events, and encounters that offered opportunities for networking and exchange among participants.
