On Skill Building and Community Engagement: Meet the NACP Tunisian Grantee Entities
13 / 8 / 2024

Seven cultural entities from Tunisia will receive support under the National Cultural Opportunities Fund of the North Africa Cultural Program’s second cycle (2024-2027).

Selected among 50 applicants, these entities foster community engagement in peripheral public spaces, and skill building in theater, dance and cinema.

The NACP Tunisian jurors - curator and researcher Beya Othmani, multidisciplinary researcher artist Bochra Triki and architect-museologist Soumaya Gharsallah - convened to evaluate the submissions and make a final selection. At the close of their deliberations, the jurors issued the following statement summing up their impressions:

“With this call, AFAC is reiterating its support to the cultural scene in North Africa, support that has been in place since 2019. The responses to the call showed the intellectual and artistic vitality of Tunisian civil society. In light of the quality of the submitted applications, selecting projects to support was not an easy task, a testament to the professionalism of Tunisia’s cultural actors and a reflection of their creativity. We hope that applicants who were not selected will pursue their fundraising efforts and will continue to move toward the realization of the extraordinary projects that they proposed.

We based our selection on a number of criteria: regional diversity, innovation, sustainability, artistic direction and the diversity of target audiences.

We also took into account the various needs of the projects. Some are looking to solicit support in developing their programming, while others are in search of structural reinforcement to guard against the precariousness of the sector. Thus, the selection reflects the reach of the North Africa Cultural Program.”

The selected entities

These entities stand among 81 institutions supported under the second cycle of the NACP (2024-2027). The NACP is carried out by AFAC with the support of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). The first cycle of the program (2019-2023) benefited 54 cultural organizations and over 2,500 practitioners and professionals, through diversified grants, training, events, and encounters that offered opportunities for networking and exchange among participants.
