81 Institutions Receive Support through the North Africa Cultural Program
12 / 7 / 2024

The Arab Fund for Arts and Culture - AFAC is pleased to announce the selection of 81 institutions, collectives, spaces and alliances that will receive support under the second cycle of the North Africa Cultural Program (NACP).

The NACP launched its second cycle (2024-2027) in January 2024, with two support schemes and several grants under each: the National Cultural Opportunities Fund (NCOF), and the Regional Competitive Creativity Fund (RCCF).

The National Cultural Opportunities Fund scheme is dedicated to arts and culture institutions and spaces in each of the five North African countries. It offers multi-year institutional and programmatic support for entities with a track record of strong public programming, and who contribute to the diversification of cultural activities in city centers and peripheries equally.

The Regional Competitive Creativity Fund scheme supports collaborative projects established through partnerships involving at least one entity based in North Africa and one or more entities located across Africa and the Arab region. It aims to strengthen existing and well-established collaborations that were initiated prior to the NACP Cycle II opportunity, while also encouraging the development of new, robust collaborations in a deliberate and thoughtful manner.

The selection of grantee entities results from a stringent and fair selection process undertaken by six independent jury committees, composed of three jurors each. The 18 jurors of this cycle convened in June to evaluate the submitted applications and make their final selection. The NACP jurors for this cycle were: Therese Ghobriel, Marwa Seoudi and Bassem Yousri from Egypt; Maria Daif, Rajae Slimani and Othman Nejemeddine from Morocco; Lydia Haddaj, Salah Badis and Rachid Briki from Algeria; Soumaya Gharsallah, Bochra Triki and Beya Othmani from Tunisia; Hadia Gana, Fatima Ghandour and Leila Tayeb from Libya; and Laila Hourani (Syria), Omar Berrada (Morocco), and Samia Labidi (Tunisia) for the regional fund jury.

The NACP jurors selected 40 institutions to receive NCOF grants (33 new institutions; 5 continuity grants from cycle I, and 1 local alliance) and 17 partnerships/collaborations to receive RCCF grants over three years with a total budget of $4.26 million. AFAC is excited to accompany those projects involving a total of 81 entities over the next three years in their efforts to strengthen their entities’ structures, plan their long-term programs, and reach more communities.

The NACP is carried out by AFAC with the support of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). The first cycle of the program (2019-2023) benefited 54 cultural organizations and over 2,500 practitioners and professionals, through diversified grants, training, events, and encounters that offered opportunities for networking and exchange among participants.
