“The Waterproofed Artist”, an interactive dance performance by Moroccan artist Youness Atbane offering a critical lens into the future of the arts, will hold its world premiere at the Downtown Contemporary Arts Festival (D-CAF) Arab Arts Focus on November 2 and 3, 2023.
Set in 2048, “The Waterproofed Artist” stages a futuristic yet critical scene in the 72nd Venice Biennale, casting a skeptical eye on the power dynamics that permeate the global art landscape. “I try to address specific perceptions of the art milieu, which is dependent on a historic logic of domination”, states Atbane.
Since 2012, the D-CAF festival brings together artists and practitioners from all around the world to showcase and discuss contemporary work. Throughout the years, their program has included performing arts, new media and visual arts, music, film, street performances, workshops, and panel discussions.
“The Waterproofed Artist”, supported by AFAC, will take place at Rawabet Art Space in Cairo. For tickets and more information, visit the D-CAF website.
