Amal Ramsis Borne in Cairo, Egypt, 1972. In 1993 she graduated form the Faculty of Law in Cairo, after which she worked as a lawyer for three years. In 1992, she participated in founding the Women's Studies Centre, “Ma’an” (together), in Egypt. In 2002, she obtained a grant from the Spanish Foreign Ministry to study film directing at the “Septima Ars” Cinema School in Madrid, completing her studies in 2005. In 2008 she founded Cairo International Women’s Film Festival, the first annual women’s film festival in Arab World. Also, she is leading the international program’s women’s workshop series known as “Correspondence between Women”. In 2012 she was the holder of the Ragnar Sohlman Scholarship in Sweden and Norway. She directed and produced “Only Dreams, 2005” “Forbidden, 2011”, “The Trace of the Butterfly, 2015” and “You Come From Far Away, 2018”. Her films obtained many international awards and has been screened in art venues and festivals around the world.
