Laila Soliman, born in 1981, is an independent Egyptian theatermaker. She studied at the German School of Saint Charles Borromeo in Cairo and obtained her bachelor’s degree in theater from the American University in Cairo, followed by a master’s degree from DasArts in Amsterdam University of the Arts. Her work explores the state of flux in the contemporary socio-political climate and its impact on individuals, relationships and power structures. She uses collective memories and personal histories to bridge the gap between official narratives and intimate, individual experiences. Since 2004, her work has been shown internationally. Her award-winning docu-fiction opera, Woman at Point 0 (2022), is currently touring internationally.
