Founded in 2012, a few months following the Libyan revolution, Arete Foundation for Arts and Culture sought to foster the dissemination of the arts within Libya (Tripoli and Benghazi) by making the work of local and international artists available to the public; to provide training, guidance, and support to artists embarking on their careers, and to assist established artists and arts organizations; to promote cooperation among Libyan artists and writers and between them and their counterparts around the world; and to serve as a resource for educational and professional institutions and to individuals who are interested in the arts in Libya and its neighboring countries.

Fondée en 2012, quelques mois après la révolution libyenne, Arete s’est engagée à favoriser la diffusion des arts en Libye (plus particulièrement à Tripoli et Benghazi), en mettant à la disposition du public le travail d’artistes locaux et internationaux ; mais également en offrant des formations, du conseil et du soutien aux artistes qui entament leurs carrières, tout en soutenant les artistes confirmés ainsi que les institutions artistiques ; en promouvant la coopération entre artistes et écrivains libyens ainsi qu’entre ces derniers et leurs homologues dans le monde entier ; et enfin en servant de ressource aux institutions éducatives et professionnelles ainsi que pour les personnes intéressées par les arts en Libye et ses environs.
