Makan – Zentrum für Arabische Filmkunst und Kultur e.V. is an independent non-profit association established in 2004 to promote and support Arab cinema. Since its founding, Makan has served as an intermediary for Arab culture, fostering intercultural dialogue through film. The association has organized numerous film programs and events over the years, ultimately leading to the creation of ALFILM — the Arab Film Festival Berlin, launched in 2009.

The association’s work and the festival are produced each year by a team of culturally motivated volunteers from varied professional and personal backgrounds, working to bring Arab filmmakers’ works to Berlin and offering the city’s international audience fresh perspectives on the Arab world.
