Basma Jabr

Basma Jabr is a Syrian singer and composer. Born in Kuwait and raised in Syria, she has been based in Austria since 2014. She earned a bachelor's degree in architecture from the University of Damascus in 2007 and currently studies indigenous music in the vocal performance department at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. Basma has collaborated on various musical projects, including the Syrian alternative band Kulna Sawa and the Chameleon Orchestra album Windows to the East (2016). Basma is also one half of the Basma and Orwa Duo, which released the album The Songs We Still Remember in 2019, and contributed to the collective projects Vienna Acoustic Diaries and Voices of Vienna, which brought together female musicians from diverse backgrounds. She released her album Furat in 2023.
