Mohamed Gaber is a type designer and artist based in Cairo. His primary interest lies in the haptic nature of type production and its technological, philosophical, and historical aspects. He holds a master's degree in design from the Sandberg Instituut in Amsterdam. He founded Kief Type Foundry, which specializes in open-source Arabic fonts, as well as TypePlatform, a research space for under-represented writing systems that focuses on Arabic script. He also co-founded TypeLab at the Sandberg Instituut. Gaber taught as a guest tutor at the American University in Cairo and Linnaeus University in Sweden. He gives workshops and talks around the world, and his type design work is featured on Google fonts.
