Born in Oran in 1981, Jamil Benhamamouch is considered in Algeria as carrying on theater production in the style of playwright Abdelkader Alloula. He has directed more than 15 performances from Alloula's texts. In 2007, he founded the Istijmam Theater Company. However, after the company was forcibly closed by Algerian authorities in 2018, Jamil moved the company’s operations to Paris, from where he still conducts work in Algeria.
