Afraa Ahmed (b.1992, Aden, Yemen), currently based in Cairo, is a multi-disciplinary artist whose work includes installation, sculpture, photography, and video. She holds a degree in multimedia technology from Asia Pacific University in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Her practice started taking shape during her time in Malaysia (2012-2021), where her work began to explore the relationship between humans and constructed landscapes, in terms of how these landscapes shape our understanding of home and identity. Afraa’s works also shed light on the current threats facing the ancient architectural heritage of Yemen as a result of the ongoing war.
