The 2018 International Film Festival Rotterdam opened on Tuesday, 24 January with the film Jimmie by Jesper Ganslandt. The 12 days program will screen more than 500 films of which are 14 Arab new productions including 3 AFAC-supported films: A Droning Man by Mahdi Fleifel will be screened as part of the Voices Short Program, while Poisonous Roses by Ahmed Fawzi Saleh will have its world premiere at this year's festival and will be competing in the Bright Future competition. Muayad Alayan's The Reports on Sarah and Saleem will also be having its word premiere and will be competing in both the Bright Future and Hivos Tiger competitions.
Eleven other Arab titles will screened in the different sections and programs of the IFFR 2018: Counting Tiles by Cynthia Choucair, The Craft by Monira Al Qadiri, The Insult by Ziad Doueiri, The Mummy by Shadi Abdel Salam, The New World, Episode One by Ghalia Elsrakbi, Razzia by Nabil Ayouch, Sewing Borders by Mohamad Hafeda, The Tree by Cheikh Mohamed Horma, Tree Identification for Beginners by Yto Barrada, Wajib by Annemarie Jacir and Le fort des fous by Narimane Mari.
